Privacy Policy
Last updated: 16 May 2026
Peelback is built to be private by default. We don’t run accounts, we don’t track you, and your scan history never leaves your device. This page explains exactly what happens to your data.
What we collect
We don’t ask for your name, email, or any account details. The only data Peelback handles is the photos you choose to scan and the results those scans produce.
Where your scans are stored
Your scan history — including product photos, ingredients, and grades — is saved only in your browser’s local storage on this device. It is never uploaded to a Peelback server, and it cannot be seen by us or anyone else. Clearing your browser data, or deleting a scan in the app, removes it permanently.
Photo analysis
To read a label, the photo you scan is sent to Hack Club AI, which performs the AI analysis. Your photo is processed solely to return ingredient information and is handled under Hack Club’s own policies. Please review the Hack Club AI terms and privacy practices to understand how they handle data on their side.
Research papers
When you open an ingredient, its name is sent to the public Europe PMC database to find related research papers. No personal information is included in that request.
Tracking & cookies
Peelback uses no advertising cookies, no analytics, and no third-party trackers.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will appear here with a new “last updated” date.
